A wonderful poem if only someone had spotted this dog sooner the link to the original work is here

Only a mongrelby Ozymandias
He was only a nameless mongrel,
his coat a dirty brown,
but something inside me died
when I had that dog put down.
I saw him there, abandoned,
unwanted and unknown,
resting beside his only friend,
a cold and meatless bone.
No longer had he any hope
to glimmer in his eye,
for all those passing on the street
walked purposefully by.
But some attraction made me pause:
I saw him as my kin,
and so I bent and gently stroked
the body weak and thin.
He raised one drooping eyelid then
and took a look at me -
I often wonder what it was
he thought that he could see.
He reached out with one paw to touch
my old and dusty shoe;
his eyes spoke volumes to my ears,
like one whose words are few.
He was too weak to walk, and so
I took him in one arm
to carry home, and set him down
where he’d be free from harm.
I found some rags and spread them out
as a bed upon my floor;
I gave him milk and bought some food
at my local corner store.
But for the most part it remained
uneaten in the bowl;
it seemed his mind had turned itself
to some different, distant goal.
From time to time he’d whimper
a quiet, near-human wail,
responding to my words of care
with faint flickering of his tail.
And so I took the dog to see
a vet just down my street,
who saw how he was thin and weak
and did not want to eat.
The vet took me aside, and said,
“He hasn’t long to live -there’s nothing I can do for him -there’s nothing I can give.
His life is not for you or I,
or even him, to keep:
it’s best if I inject him now
and let him go to sleep.”
So I went back to say goodbyeto the dog who’d been my friend
for just one day in both our lives, and his about to end.
He stretched a paw to touch me
with a meaning in his eyes
that would be understood by those
who know where beauty lies.
I reached and stroked him gently,
and I knew he’d understand
what fate decreed for him and me
in the world of dog and man.
I turned my face away then
and walked back home alone,
my heart heavy with a sorrow
that only I could own.
He was only a nameless mongrel,
his coat a dirty brown,
but something inside me died
when I had that dog put down.

all about me

seeing as my little sis has started a blog i thought i would start one too, my name is harley de and i am a parsons jack russell x corgi x dachhund x collie x damation, i know its a bit of a mix but it means i have lots of great qualitys although mum says I am just like a jack in looks and personality but i am of course black, a lot stockier, and a little bit longer in the body.

I am the boss of this house when dads at work, and I protect everyone and everything. The rottie Hooch is trying to take my place as boss at the moment but that won't last i'll make sure of that hes so stupid it wont take much to out smart him.

as well as hooch i share my home with another little dog called chickie who also has a blog, three cats, a cockatoo, and two cockatiels in the aveiry although mum foster birds so the aviary birds come and go.

but out of all the animals I am the best.

the humans in my life are my mum joss, my dad dan, kye the toddler, and my auntie sammy, cant forget sammy as she brings all the treats.

although she has been taken in by that big dumb brute hooch.

I am eight years old, and will be nine on christmas day and i have been with my mum since i was bore, before i was born if you count when i was in my mummys tummy. My mum was called tamika i dont have a pic of my mum but i do have a picture of my dad scampy, and i was lucky enough to know my grandad and my gran to my gran was called sasha and my grandad was called fred.

but this is my dad.

my dad is very old now, he has bad eyesight, and cant hear very well and he cant walk very far, but he still keeps trundling on, he lives with my mums, mum, and they have just moved to ilfacombe and so are very close now they lived in kent before which was where i was born.

I was born at 3am christmas morning, my mum was there to greet me and i had 5 sisters, sadly no brothers, mum was meant to be going for christmas dinner at her sisters but she stayed at home with my mum and all the pups, so we had our own special christmas.

chistmas is always extra special for me.

so this is a little bit about me and i look forward to making lots of new friends and telling you more about me soon. xxx
